How you set your password the first time you access the Whalemate admin panel, and what to do if you forgot it or can't log in.
This guide is for people who administer Whalemate. Your collaborators don't use a password: they access their training portal with a link that arrives by email. That is explained in Accessing the portal.
Setting your own password when you're added as a user, without anyone in your organization having to share one with you.
Getting back in on your own if you forgot it, without depending on support.
Understanding what each message on the access screens means, so you can tell whether the problem is the link, the email address, or the password.
The text on these screens still appears in English. It's quoted exactly as you'll see it, so you can recognize it.
When someone adds you as a user from Configuración → Usuarios, you receive an email with the subject «Configurá tu contraseña».
Open the email and click the «Configurar contraseña» button.
A screen opens that says «Welcome!» and «Let's set up your password to login».
Type your password in «Password *» and repeat it in «Repeat Password *».
Click «Continue».
Your password has to meet four conditions, and if it doesn't, the form tells you before saving:
At least 8 characters — Password must be at least 8 characters.
At least one uppercase letter — Password must have at least one uppercase character.
At least one number — Password must have at least one digit.
It can't be one of the most commonly used passwords in the world, like 123456 or password.
If the two passwords don't match, The passwords doesn't match appears.
After saving, you return to the login screen and can now log in with your email and the password you just set.
On the login screen, click «Olvidé mi contraseña».
The «Forgot your password?» screen opens. Type your address in «Email address» and click «Send Request».
You return to the login screen with the notice «Email sent!».
The notice «Email sent!» always appears, even if the address you typed doesn't correspond to any user. It appearing doesn't confirm that the email is on its way: it confirms that the request was sent.
You receive an email with the subject «Notificación de reinicio de contraseña» and a «Reiniciar contraseña» button. The email itself clarifies that the link expires in 60 minutes and that if you didn't request the change, you don't need to do anything.
Opening the link opens the «Change password» screen, with three fields:
«Email» — it has to be the same address the email was sent to.
«Password» — the new password, 6 characters or more.
«Confirm New Password» — the same password again.
Click «Update Password». If it goes well, «Password updated!» appears and you return to the login screen to log in with the new password.
If something fails, these are the messages you may see:
«El token de restablecimiento de contraseña es inválido.» — more than 60 minutes have passed since you requested the link, you've already used it once, or the email you typed doesn't match the one on the link. Request a new link from «Olvidé mi contraseña».
«No encontramos ningún usuario con ese correo electrónico.» — the address you typed isn't registered in Whalemate.
«Por favor espere antes de intentar de nuevo.» — you requested another link less than a minute after the previous one.
Passwords must match — the two new passwords aren't the same.
For security reasons, the system accepts up to 5 recovery requests every 15 minutes per email address. If you use them all up, you have to wait before trying again.
Some accounts also need to have their email verified in order to log in. When you verify your address from the email you receive, one of these two screens opens:
«Email verified!», with the text "Welcome to Whalemate" and a «Go to login» link to log in.
«Email not verified!», with the text "Something went wrong". This means the verification link isn't valid: this usually happens when an old email is opened or the link arrived cut off by the email client.
That second screen has no available action. If you end up there, the way forward is to ask the person who administers Whalemate in your organization to check your user account in Configuración → Usuarios, or to write to us.
If when logging in you see «Por favor verifique su email», it's this same case: the account exists and the password is correct, but the address still isn't verified.
It says «Email sent!» but nothing arrived. What do I do?
Check your spam folder, then confirm that the address is written exactly the same as the one you use to log in. The notice appears the same way even if the address has a typo or doesn't exist, so it doesn't serve as confirmation. If the address is correct and nothing arrives, ask whoever administers Whalemate to verify it in Configuración → Usuarios.
I opened the link from the email and it tells me the token is invalid.
The link lasts 60 minutes and is used only once. If more time has passed, if you had already used it, or if in the «Email» field you typed an address different from the one that received the email, that message appears. Request a new link and use it within the hour.
Why do I have to type my email if the link arrived in my inbox?
The form asks for the address to confirm whose password is being changed. It has to be the same one the email was sent to: if you type another one, the change is rejected.
I requested the link several times and now it won't let me request it anymore.
You can request up to 5 links every 15 minutes, and at least one minute has to pass between one and the next. Wait a few minutes and try again; there's nothing else you need to do.
Can I change my password without having forgotten it?
Today the only way is «Olvidé mi contraseña» from the login screen, even if you remember the current one: there's no screen within the panel to change it. Log out, request the link, and set the new one.
